Rimmel London has kicked off the year with the launch of The Only 1 Matte lipsticks, a range of 9 velvety matte shades perfect to choose from for Valentines Day. Leading on from their original The Only 1 collection which included 20 all-in-one lipsticks, the new Matte collection focuses on bringing you 9 new shades in a true matte form.
The brand has sent all 9 shades my way to try out, so following are my thoughts on the collection!
The Formula
Every lipstick in the The Only 1 Matte range has a moisture-matte finish, a flat rich colour with minimal shine. The thick creamy texture ensures the colour-payoff is strong and long-wearing, while keeping the lips smooth and matte. I found that once applied, the product slightly settles into the lines on your lips, as any matte lipsticks do.
To really set the lipstick in place, I found blotting with a tissue, pushing the product into my lips, made the colour even more matte and minimised transfer. There is the slightest dry tingly feeling after doing that, however nowhere near what you feel when wearing a matte liquid lipstick. Each lipstick feels comfortable to the point where you don't really feel like you're wearing one at all.
There is a scent to each lipstick, which is the same scent I got from the original The Only 1 collection. To me, it smells like fruity grape or watermelon. If anyone remembers the smell of the purple grape or watermelon Lip Smackers back in the day, it reminds me exactly of that!
The Packaging
Following on from the original collection, these new lipsticks are in the same silver bullet, however they feature a new matte red casing. There is a strip of colour around the outside to represent the colour on the inside, although I found the actual colour of the lipsticks to be ever so slightly more dark and rich than what I expected from the colour on the tube.
The lipstick itself is flat and slanted for neat and easy application. The lid of the casing is slanted, so it's not as easy to store upside-down with the colour sticker showing, which is on the bottom.
TOP TO BOTTOM: 700 Trendsetter, 200 Salute, 610 High Flyer, 110 Leader Of The Pink, 120 Call The Shots, 500 Take The Stage, 810 The Matte Factor, 750 Look Who's Talking, 800 Run The Show
The Shades
The 9 colours in the range vary from mid-toned nudes to bright pinks, bold reds and burgundys. Out of the nude shades, being the colours I'd always reach for first, the only one I'll probably continue to use is "Salute", which is a really natural easy-to-wear pink. The other two were slightly too warm-toned for my skin tone. I was more blown away by the bolder colours, such as "Call The Shots" (deep pink) and "Take The Stage" (classic red).
The one surprise for me was the bright purple, called "Run The Show". Not a typical colour I would go for, or one you'd often see in drugstore collections. It still really interested me as I was trying it on. Despite being a outgoing, purple shade, it had these pink hues to it which tied it in with the rest of the collection. The colour made a lot more sense once I had put it on!
The collection will be available in Priceline, Big W, Target, Chemist Warehouse and our major supermarkets. Otherwise you can find them on ASOS!

How good are these? I have been wearing 'look who's talking' and 'take the stage' the most but 'salute' was such a good nude as well. I often find nudes tricky to nail, this colour was perfect.
